GT News 2/25/08
GT students are bringing home the annual parent
survey. 5th and 6th graders received theirs Feb. 21, and 7th and 8th graders
received theirs Feb. 22. The surveys will allow parents input on the GT program
and serve to guide the GT advisory committee in proposing changes to the
program. Surveys can be filled out and returned to me at either campus or sent
directly to Tessie Young at the district's service center. Surveys are due
Friday, February 29. Thank you in advance for taking the time to help us improve
our services to your students. If you have any questions, please contact
Christine Hansen.
2008 Yearbooks On
Sale
The BMS 2008 Yearbooks
are now on sale. This year’s book will feature a custom designed color
hardcover and have all inside pages in color as well. This is also the first
time in several years that students will be able to buy name stamping for their
yearbook for a low price of $5.00. Last year students were given a chance to
buy a supplemental autograph section to place in their books. This year the 8
page self-adhesive booklet gives students the chance to have all of their
friends sign their book without defacing the picture pages for only $3.00.
Books are on sale “B” days during A, B, and D lunches and before, during, and
after school. The books are priced at $30.00 Contact Mrs. Hansen in Rm. 313 for
more information or to purchase a book. The price will go up after December 13
to $35.00.
GT News
GT students at BMS are
offered two modes of service to fit their individual needs. Students may enroll
in PreAP classes in all four core content areas. PreAP teachers have received
thirty initial 30 hours of training in gifted/talented and maintain a six hour
annual update. Additionally, GT students can enroll in a GT elective class.
Here, students will pursue independent study projects, build relationships with
other GT students, and have the opportunity to develop their individual
strengths. This is the first year that the elective classes have been split so
that 7th graders and 8th graders can enroll in grade level
sections. Currently, students are learning about the multiple intelligence
theory, Bloom’s taxonomy, and beginning research for their independent study
project.
I am planning an
informational evening for parents of GT students at BIS and BMS in October. I
will post the date as soon as I confirm it with my principals. If you have any
questions, concerns, or issues about the GT program or your student, please
contact me. I am at BMS on “B” days but can always be reached by email.
