Clara Maynard Room

The Bastrop County Museum was started in 1952 by the Bastrop County Historical Society. The Clara Maynard Room was added on to the museum in 1971. Most of the items in this room were donated by Clara Maynard (the founder of the Bastrop County Historical Society). Some of the displays include an examining table and some surgical instruments that used to belong to Gov. Sayers' father, Dr. Joseph David Sayers. The Clara Maynard room has other items such as a display of old school books and period clothing.

Quilt top

Quilt Top: The material was from scrap pieces of dresses worn by Mitchell and Henry C. Ingram (back in the mid-1800's, little boys wore dresses).

Piano

Piano: One of the items in the Clara Maynard room is a piano used by former Texas Governor, Joseph Sayers.

table

Operating Table: This operating table was used by Dr. Sayers, who had an office at Main St. until 1886. His office consisted of a desk, a chair and a cabinet made of the same wood and finish.
